The LaRose Duo: Sister & Brother
The LaRose Series is a deeply personal exploration rooted in my mother’s complex, playful spirit. She was a woman of depth and mystery, layered with humor and an effortless wit.
When faced with the unexplainable, her response was simple and disarming—“LaRose.” A word that carried meaning without definition, it reflected her ability to hold contradiction: seriousness and laughter, strength and softness, clarity and mystery.
LaRose Sister (48×48) and LaRose Brother (48×60) translate that spirit into visual form. Set against deep, midnight-toned canvases, bursts of vibrant color and energetic, layered gestures move freely—playful yet intentional, complex yet joyful. The works echo childhood memories shaped by her presence, capturing both the lighthearted moments and the deeper emotional currents of family life. Together, the pair invites viewers into a space where meaning unfolds gradually, honoring the beautiful complexity of connection, memory, and love.

The scorched, worded paper forms the heartbeat of this series. Charred collage and fragmented text collide with color to represent language, memory, and transformation. The printed words reference stories once accepted as absolute—beliefs, labels, and rules that shaped identity and imposed boundaries.
Fire enters as interruption rather than destruction, breaking the certainty of the text and altering its meaning. What remains is raw and expressive, with blackened edges marking moments of transition where old narratives give way to expansion. Color moves through the charred surface as a counterbalance—symbolizing energy, emotion, and the freedom that emerges when certainty dissolves.
As the words fade into ash and shadow, the work becomes a space of reinvention, inviting feeling over definition.
